Basement

This is one of my favorite boxes that I have made. It is about 5 inches square and is of one of my students. I have gotten to know the family quite well and at a recent art show the mother bought it for her husband. I was sad to see it go, but I know it is in good hands. I used a lot of old things from my childhood doll house for the "basement" interior.

Prints

These are some photo etchings along the same line as the paintings I posted yesterday. The photo etching process has been one of my favorite processes to do because of its unpredictability. It involves laying a film of light sensative film onto a copper plate and then exposing your image in a similar way to that of a contact sheet in conventional photography. You then develop the image and print.

Paintings

These are some paintings I did almost 2 years ago now. They are a part of a series that I think I'm calling unchildlike children. They are students in the school I teach at and in getting to know them in a way a lot of other people don't have the opportunity to I feel like I have these insights into their secret thoughts. That sounds creepy like I'm some pedafile and it irritates me that art about children has to be corny or sexual to be appreciated in our culture right now. I see these kids stories and I see the way they deal with social issues, familial issues, political issues, and everyday life in the new milenium. Children have a fascinating way of coping and my work is intended to point to their struggle and survival.
